Mark Treuenfels

Lubin C. was raised in Minnesota and moved to the west coast after high school, where he earned a degree in sculpture from the San Francisco Art Institute. He has been making sculptures for about 40 years, and of course always trying to challenge himself, to learn and improve a bit each day. This is something most growing artists do, and in itself is not remarkable. For many years this has been Lubin C.’s endless challenge, and it has brought him a lot of satisfaction, and a great sense of self-worth. But lately another aspect has emerged. About ten years ago Lubin served in the Peace Corps in Jamaica, in West Kingston. Since that time his aesthetic has shifted, and he has been sculpting ethnic pieces. Lubin C. wanted to take a careful look at the faces of the unrecognized, the anonymous and under represented people that he saw every day. This is a tribute to those people, and to their dignity and individuality.
