Julius Dimanlig

Julius Dimanlig, a Philippine born multimedia artist, immigrated to the United States when he was ten years old. Studied at the San Francisco Art Institute, but after 18 years living abroad Julius returned to the Philippines to continue his studio practice. Currently, he is a Photography instructor for out-of-school youth at a development center in his neighborhood. He organizes for the Pasig Art Club, initiating workshops, curating exhibits and perpetuating fellowship among artist collectives.

Wittingly crafting urban fragments – objects, landscapes, and portraits of the Filipinos- Julius Dimanlig’s works revisit sentiments of survival, long after imperialists’ schemes took turns to control the Philippines. He suggests culture has the ability to naturally bounce back, but reveals a sublime innocence and fragility. Julius Dimanlig voices an unspoken truth that lies deep within the complex layers of our social consciousness.
