Rick Febre<\/i> is a Graphic Designer\/photographer\/educator that currently lives in Northern California. The artworks shown in this October show are from Rick Febre\u2019s Small works: Short stories Series. <\/i>It is a visual collection representing various anecdotes and decisions one collects over time. As a 4o-something artist, Rick has begun to reflect on the life decisions he has made. By themselves, these stories do not (and shouldn’t) tell a complete story. They are just fragments of the larger story.<\/p>\n
Rick Febre has an affinity for the darkened images. He likes the background that envelops the figure (or prop) in the foreground and the tension it creates. Rick uses photography lighting to create this dramatic and tense mood. As for the object themselves, Rick used old toys and books for slightly different reasons. He used old toys as metaphors for anecdotes pertaining to his life: A crash-landed plane, the beaten down ceremonial marching band. Rick likes focusing on the garish, aged, and imperfect nature of these objects. The books are used to convey a notion of story.<\/p>\n
Rick Febre\u2019s intent is not to show a linear narrative, but rather to show the interwoven collection of stories and decisions one begins to collect over time.<\/p>\n
